Coolidge Meet and Greet for New Principal Brockberg

(Crystal A. Proxmire)

The new principle at Coolidge Intermediate School (2521 Bermuda) gave families a warm welcome along with some cold ice cream at the August 19, 2010 Ice Cream Social and Meet & Greet.  Parents spoke with Dr. Kevin Brockberg while their little ones played with other youngsters and built their own sundaes.

Brockberg told students that just like sundaes have ingredients, so will his administration as principal.  He listed 8 things that students at Coolidge can expect:

  1. A sense of belonging to the school
  2. Having a hero (mentoring programs, finding out who their heros are)
  3. A sense of accomplishment
  4. Fun and excitement
  5. Curiosity and creativity
  6. Spirit of adventure
  7. Leadership and responsibility
  8. Confidence to make good decisions

Superintendent Gary Meier said “We’re very excited to bring Dr. Brockberg on as principal.  He’s had great experiences as an assistant principal in Detroit and in his tenure in China at the International School at Hong Kong.  He has what it takes to engage the students and embrace the Coolidge family.”

The Ferndale Schools Website give more information about the new principal, stating  “He has a plan to make the first 100 days very special for the school, making a commitment to know every child by name, while working closely to get to know the staff in the building. He is very focused on carefully examining state grade level expectations, and continuing to see a rise in students’ MEAP scores. He believes strongly in the importance of relationships in and out of the classroom and is committed to ensuring Coolidge continues to provide many after school opportunities for students.

Dr. Brockberg earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Education at Concordia University. He pursued graduate studies in Education Oversees at Michigan State University, and earned his Education Specialist and Doctor of Philosophy in Education at Oakland University.”
