Ferndale Schools Appoints Two Principals, HR Manager

At the Special Meeting held by the Ferndale Board of Education on Monday, July 26, the Board approved the appointment of three key positions.     

 

 

Amy Crandall, Human Resources Manager, has over ten years of human resources experience in both the private and public sectors. She began her professional career in the health care industry and worked for the Detroit Medical Center and St. John Health System. Crandall has also worked for a human resources consulting company. Two years ago, she began working for a public school district before accepting this position in the Ferndale Public Schools. 

 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University and a Master of Science in Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from Central Michigan University.

 

She has a strong background in employee benefits, workers compensation, labor/employee relations, recruitment, training and development, federal and state law compliance, and wage and salary administration.

Coolidge Intermediate School Principal

Kevin Brockberg, PhD

Dr. Brockberg has many years of teaching experience including in China at the Hong Kong International School, and most recently as assistant principal and teacher in the Detroit Public Schools. Dr. Brockberg is also an adjunct professor and consultant at Oakland University. He believes strongly in communicating with school families, makes sure he knows every student by name. Dr. Brockberg's aim through the years, whether as a teacher or principal, is always to draw students toward self-respect, compassion and scholastic initiative. He has a plan to make the first 100 days very special for the school, making a commitment to know every child by name, while working closely to get to know the staff in the building. He is very focused on carefully examining state grade level expectations, and continuing to see a rise in students’ MEAP scores.  He believes strongly in the importance of relationships in and out of the classroom and is committed to ensuring Coolidge continues to provide many after school opportunities for students.

 

Dr. Brockberg earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Education at Concordia University. He pursued graduate studies in Education Oversees at Michigan State University, and earned his Education Specialist and Doctor of Philosophy in Education at Oakland University.

John F. Kennedy School Principal

Dianne Shepich

Dianne comes to us after serving most recently as Principal of Avondale Meadows Upper Elementary Leadership School in the Avondale School District where she was successful in implementing the fourth Leader in Me program in Michigan. She is an expert on teaching and learning, and has worked as an administrator in several capacities, including Dean of Students/Assistant Principal and Special Education Coordinator in the Clarenceville School District. Dianne was also the 2010 MASB Education Excellence Award Recipient recognized for her original, innovative programs that positively affect student achievement.

 

She says she is excited to become part of Ferndale’s community and looking forward to working side by side with parents to maximize the teaching and learning experiences in Kennedy School. 

 

Shepich earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a major in Special Education, and a Masters in Administration through the Academy of the Principalship, both from Central Michigan University.
