The Bear View of Pride:  What to Expect this Year from the Motor City Bears

By, Motor City Bears

The Motor City Bears (MCB) announce their 4th annual fund raiser/celebration during Pride Weekend in Detroit.  This weekend-long series of events are fundraisers for the local community as well as a celebration of gay pride.  The fundraisers will benefit the Affirmations Gay and Lesbian Community Center in Ferndale, MI. and The Ruth Ellis Center in Highland Park.

On Friday, June 4, 2010 our "Motor City Bear Bash Party" will take place at The Menjo’s Complex at 928 W. 6 Mile Rd in Detroit.   This will feature plenty of free food, drink specials, the Mr. Motor City Bear Contest winner, a 50/50 drawing, wrestling and much more.  All of this for the $5 cover charge.  This event as well as all the weekend events are advertised in Michigan, surrounding states and Canada.  This weekend gets bigger every year so come out and have fun with the bears.

Saturday, June 5, 2010 brings a full line up of events starting with our popular “Bears in Speedos Car Wash” from 1pm to 4pm.  This will be held at the Paramount Bank branch in Ferndale at 22635 Woodward Avenue, just south of Nine Mile.  Paramount Bank has participated in this weekend from the start and truly believes in supporting our efforts to help the community. The suggested donation is $5.00.

Next on Saturday is our silent auction at Zion Lutheran church at 143 Albany St. in Ferndale.  This is just South of 9 Mile road, next to Dunkin Donuts on Woodward.  Item on auction include many donated gift cards from area businesses, fine art, and member services.  This auction has been a great success and it is a great easy way to help out these charities.

Saturday’s third event will be an "all you can eat" Pasta Dinner again at the Zion Lutheran Church. Hours for the dinner are 5 PM to 9 PM. The suggested donation will be $12 for adults, $6 for kids and will feature baked pasta, bread sticks, salad, soft drinks and some very special desserts.  Both vegetarian and meat versions of the pasta will be available.

Also on Saturday is our pie eating contest at 7pm also at Zion Church.  This is the debut year for this contest and it is sure to be a lot of fun.  For a $5 entrance fee you too can stuff your face with pie and have a chance to win some great prizes.  There will also be pie available for purchase during the contest.

On Sunday, June 6, 2010 The Motor City Bears will have a booth in Ferndale for the PrideFest Street Fair.  Stop by and say hello!  We will be giving away many prizes and will have a display explaining what the Motor City Bears are all about.  Oh, and we will be bear hunting!  Ask for details at the booth.
