Orchestra Program Receives Electric Quartet

On Friday May 7, 2010, the Ferndale Orchestra program received a delivery of a Yamaha electric string quartet package. The package, which retails at over $6,000, includes four instruments (2 electric violins, 1 electric viola, 1 electric cello), portable PA system, mixer, and speaker stands.

According to Orchestra instructor Ben Moy, this set will enable any quartet to perform and be heard in any environment. Students performed with the new set on May 13th at the Ferndale State of the City address, and can be heard May 22nd at the Pleasant Ridge Foundation fundraiser, May 24th at the FHS orchestra concert, and hopefully at the PTA June Fair on June 4.

Purchasing this new equipment was made possible by the newly formed OrchSupport booster group. This sub-committee of the Ferndale Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) was able to raise the money in its first year of existence by securing a generous grant of $3,000 from the Pleasant Ridge Foundation, raising money at Extravaganza, having a bowling fundraiser, bake sales, and with some assistance from the FAB.

Moy says, "This accomplishment really is a tribute to the supportive and active parents that we are fortunate to have in our community."  More information about FAB and how you can contribute to help students in the Ferndale School District, go to http://www.fsfab.org.  For more information on Ferndale Schools, go to http://www.ferndaleschools.org.
